Obligatory captain and doctor slash? Check.
I finally saw Master and Commander, which was extremely genius. Paul Bettany is real (in case you saw A Beautiful Mind and were, you know, worried about his existence). He is also a totally brilliant Stephen Maturin, though his paisley was extremely gay, even if he was pretending to be Victorian. Russell Crowe was, well, Russell Crowe. I'm not going to lie; I wasn't totally taken in by his Jack Aubrey. Also, it was sort of weird that neither Sophie nor Diana made an appearance (okay, Sophie's name was on a letter). I guess I'm too used to the she-demon that is known as Diana Villiers haunting everything to do with the Aubreyad to watch a film without her. Not even a mention! I'm hoping this means that, at some point, she marries someone else, Stephen gives up on her, and he settles for a happy threesome with Jack and Sophie. (Please? Please, Patrick O'Brian?)
But mostly it was just excellent to finally see it. I hope the Powers that Be see fit to make a sequel. I'll be right there at the 12AM premiere. Speaking of 12AM premieres, is it time for The Dark Knight to come out? I want to see Gary Oldman as the perfect Commissioner Gordon. If Christian Bale, glam rock fanboy, happens to put in an appearance, I won't mind.
